Dr. Edward J. Stegman

September 7, 1941 — March 30, 2026

Pittsburgh

Dr. Edward Jacob Stegman passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, after a long journey with dementia. Ed grew up in the Sharpshill area of O’Hara Township, northeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the 10th in a family of 13 children, the youngest son.

Ed devoted his life to helping people feel better through his chiropractic and hypnotherapy practice, and to many friends and family he was lovingly known as “Doc.” In his younger years, he served in the United States Army and later worked in contracting before putting himself through chiropractic school at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri, all while supporting a young family as a maintenance contractor. After returning to Pittsburgh, Ed ran chiropractic practice in the Fox Chapel area for more than 40 years. He was also an avid practitioner and teacher of the holistic mind–body–spirit philosophy known as Concept Therapy. In his spare time, he volunteered at the Moose Lodge in Etna, cheered on the Steelers, and never met a card game he didn’t enjoy—especially in good company.

Ed loved tinkering on projects at home and enjoyed weekly trips to the local flea market with his friends and siblings. A former barbershop quartet member, Doc also loved to sing—and in more recent years he would happily join family sing-alongs at a moment’s notice, usually with a grin that suggested he planned to hit the high note whether it was there or not. More than anything, Ed loved being with his family, and he absolutely lit up around his grandchildren. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Stegman, whom he married on May 27, 1967, and by his parents, Herman and Bertha (Lebo) Stegman. He is survived by his children: Erika Clark (Jeffrey), Lara Stegman, and Ryan Stegman (Susan); and by his grandchildren: Madeline Clark, Samantha Clark, Vincent Clark, Laura Stegman, and Dillon Stegman.

Ed is also survived by his siblings, Bernadette Newcamp, Dorothy Ebel, Father Vincent Stegman, C.S.Sp., Sister Theresa Stegman, C.D.P., William Stegman, Joan Creighton, Mary Raub, and Rose Stegman, and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Rita Rambacher, Cecelia Watson, Jerome “Jay” Stegman, and Norbert Stegman.

We look forward to celebrating Ed’s life with a visitation on Monday, April 6 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 at Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. Sharpsburg, 820 Main St, Sharpsburg, PA 15215. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7 at 10:00 am at the Kearns Spirituality Center Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd.
