On Thursday, June 23, 2022, Karen Louise (Bates) Cook, age 73, passed away peacefully and without pain at Canterbury Place Hospice. She was born in Sharpsburg, PA, January 30, 1949, the only daughter of the late Paul D. and Rita M. (Fix) Bates. She is survived by her beloved husband David R. Cook Sr., her children Christine Kiss (Nicholas) and David R. Cook Jr. (Jamie), and loving brother Paul J. Bates (Shelley). Karen (Grammy) is also survived by her grandchildren Tyler, Joshua and Hannah Kiss and her nephews Colin and Adam Bates whom she adored. She was a medical transcriptionist for over 30 years at St. Margaret’s hospital and owned her own transcription service, KC Transcription. She worked tirelessly (often late into the night) to support her customers in the healthcare field and wore out more computer keyboards than anyone can count. Karen was an avid reader, enjoyed spontaneous car rides, breakfasts with her brother Paul, birthday dinners at Ichiban steakhouse, and weekly games of Mahjong with her friends. She enjoyed practical jokes, knew so many unusual facts, would help anyone in need, and was known to “always be right”. Friends received MONDAY 2-8pm, WORRELL FUNERAL HOME (412-782-2211) 820 Main St., Sharpsburg, PA, 15215. Blessing prayers at 6:00pm. Committal 11:00a.m. TUESDAY, Greenwood Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
