Marianne Rose DeFazio

Age 91, formerly of Sharpsburg, PA, on December 15, 2022. Beloved wife of
Frank “Cheech” DeFazio whom she married February 18, 1950. Born October
18,1931 to Luigi and Anna Mazza, she was preceded in death by one brother
(Joseph) and one sister (Rita).

Marianne was the loving matriarch of the large Italian family she nurtured
with her husband, and she loved her family with unending and unconditional
love. Her passion for cooking combined with her fearlessness in taking risks
in life led her to open the “La Cresta” Italian restaurant in Aspinwall where
she prided herself in preparing authentic Calabrian food “Cooked with Love.”
In addition to family and food, she loved all things in nature, especially
gardening and she prided herself on growing beautiful roses, dahlias and
gladiolas.

Over the years, she instilled her Christian faith and devotion in her children
and grandchildren and had a special relationship with St. Anthony whom she
loved and adored, and believed was always watching over us all.
She leaves behind a family that will miss her every day, but will honor her
through their love of strangers, those less fortunate, coffee and deep
conversations.

She leaves behind her six surviving children: Karen (Jay) Flynn; Nancy (Paul)
Chambers; Francine (Richard) Porter; Dr. Robert (Nicole Pacella) DeFazio;
Frank (Nicole Cavoti) DeFazio; and Lisa (Gregg) Gordon, and beloved niece
Phyllis (Schatz) as well as her five adoring grandchildren Sean, Anna, Sara,
Roberto and Cate.

The family would like to thank all the health care workers who cared for her
on 5B of UPMC St. Margaret hospital. The daily compassion and care shown
to someone they did not know left us all humbled and eternally grateful for
the peace they brought to her in those last days and for making her more
comfortable. Special thanks to Dr. Angelo Castiglione and Dr. Brian W.
Zimmer, who made her smile through difficult times. In addition, as a dialysis
patient for over 12 years, the care she received at Davita Dialysis in
Bloomfield and later at Fresenius Kidney Care in Glenshaw provided her with
more days to share with her friends and family, and for this we are eternally
grateful.

Because of her love for children, donations can be made to St. Jude’s
Children's Hospital. Friends received Sunday, December 18, 12PM to 4 PM, and 6PM to 9PM in
SLATER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., SHARPSBURG (412-782-2211) corner of Main and 9th Street, Sharpsburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Mary Church at Christ the King Parish, Sharpsburg on Monday, December 19, at 10:00 AM.
