Peter A. LaCava, age 59, of O’Hara Township, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at UPMC Passavant–McCandless Hospital after fiercely fighting a two-year battle with cancer.

Pete was born November 2, 1966 in Pittsburgh, PA. A 1985 graduate of Fox Chapel High School, Pete went on to earn a degree in Fire Science from the Community College of Allegheny County. He proudly owned and operated Advanced Pest Control for more than 25 years with his brother, Patrick, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. He was a former member of the Dorseyville Volunteer Fire Department, Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Company, and the Aspinwall Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and shooting at the Greater Pittsburgh, West Deer, and Rosedale Sportsmen’s Associations.


Pete also loved flying remote-control airplanes and drones with Mon Valley RC, the Indiana Flyers Club, the Sky Kings, and the Gypsy Moths at Nardo Airfield. He and Mary Ann shared a passion for collecting pre-war and post-war model trains.


He is survived by his love of 35 years, Mary Ann Graham; his mother, Patricia LaCava; his brother, Patrick LaCava; and his sister, Lisa (Bill) Selk. He is also survived by his nephews and niece, Joe, Jake, and Amelia Selk, who, along with his siblings, brought great joy to his life. Pete leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends who will forever remember his music, humor, and storytelling. He was preceded in death by his loving father, Kenneth P. LaCava.


Visitation will be held at Slater Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. Sharpsburg (formerly Worrell Funeral Home) in Sharpsburg on Friday, November 28, from 2–5 p.m., followed by a reception at the Pleasant Valley VFC. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 29 at 10:00 a.m., at Christ the King Parish in St. Joseph Church on Dorseyville Road, followed by a reception.
