Virginia M. Briggs (Modjestic)

Virginia M. Briggs (Modjestic), age 97, passed peacefully early the morning of January 4, 2023 at her residence in Russellton, PA. She is the daughter of the late Victor “Cappy” and Pauline Modjestic. Loving mother to three children who preceeded her in death, one son Raymond “Ray” Briggs from Grand Island, NY, and two daughters Patricia “Patty” Good and Billie Ann “Ann” Schmittlein both from Pittsburgh, PA, all of which she spoke of missing terribly. She is survived by seven Grandchildren John, Jim (Stacey), Jamie (Ted) and Kellie (Carla) as well as ten “Great Grandchildren” Johnny, Bradley (Kirstie), Andrew, Jacob, Jacklynn, Arden, Adrian, Jocelyn and Billie Ann. Originally from Morningside and then raising her children in Pittsburgh’s “Fineview” area where she also worked for the City of Pittsburgh’s Controller office with her favorite Mayor being the late Richard Caliguiri. She went to St. Raphael’s from a child through 12th grade. She prided herself on being an honest, hardworking, giving woman but most importantly being a good daughter, mother, an amazing grandmother and a fantastic great grandmother. She loved and adored her family most of all and will be sorely missed by all. Family, friends, and others whose lives Virginia touched are invited to SLATER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES INC. SHARPSBURG, (412-782-2211) at 820 Main St., Sharpsburg, PA 15215 on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ The King Parish in St. Scholastica Church, 309 Brilliant Ave, Aspinwall, PA 15215 on Monday at 10am. Burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 7601 Mt. Carmel Rd, Verona, PA 15147.
